10+ Ways to Infuse Femininity into a Dark Bedroom Palette

Incorporating a dark bedroom color palette into a room isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s a bold move that can make a space feel cozy and intimate but can also make a room feel dark and uninviting. The key to making a dark color palette work is to add in plenty of texture and contrast to keep the space from feeling too heavy.

If you’re looking to create a dark and moody bedroom, we’ve got you covered. We’ve rounded up some of our favorite dark bedroom color schemes to inspire you. From deep navy walls to charcoal furniture, there are plenty of ways to add dark colors to your bedroom to create a cozy, intimate space.

1. Add some shine

Whether it’s a brass bed, a mirrored dresser, or a crystal chandelier, adding a touch of shine to a dark and moody bedroom is a must. The right amount of sparkle can add a hint of femininity to the space without being too over-the-top.

2. Metallics are your friend

I’m a sucker for gold accents, and the right metallic can add a feminine touch to even the darkest of spaces.

I love how the gold in the light fixture, the chair legs, and the decor on the shelves adds a soft glow to this moody room.

3. Try a little sparkle

Pink and gold is a classic feminine color combo, and this bedroom pulls it off beautifully. The gold in the headboard, the nightstands and the chandelier adds a touch of sparkle to the room, while the pink in the pillows and the throw blanket adds a pop of color.

Lighting can make a big difference in a dark room, and the chandelier in this space is a great example of how to do it well. The crystals reflect the light from the bulbs, making the room feel bright and inviting.

4. Don’t be afraid of a little color

One of the most common misconceptions about dark color palettes is that they have to be neutral. I love using color to break up the darkness and add a little more interest and personality to the space.

In this room, I used a combination of dusty rose, blush, and peach to create a soft, feminine palette. I also added in a few touches of gold and brass to add a little warmth and shine to the space.

5. Consider a light fixture with an interesting shape

This is a great trick for any room, but especially in a bedroom, where you want the light to feel soft and cozy.

I love the idea of bringing in a chandelier or pendant light with a beautiful shape.

It adds a softness to the room and brings the eye up, which I think is important in a dark space.

This is an easy way to add a touch of femininity to a room without going overboard.

6. Add a little something special to your headboard

I love the look of a simple, upholstered headboard, but I wanted to add a little something special to this one. So, I used a stencil to add a subtle, floral pattern to the fabric. It’s a small detail, but it really makes the headboard feel like a one-of-a-kind piece.

If you’re not into stenciling, you could also use a fabric with a pretty pattern or a tufted headboard for a similar effect.

7. Consider a pattern

Patterns are a great way to add visual interest to any room. In a dark bedroom, consider adding a pattern to the curtains, bedding or even the walls.

In this design, we incorporated a large-scale floral wall mural, which adds a feminine touch to the space without being too overpowering.

8. Add a little greenery

Last but not least, greenery. I try to add a little greenery to every room that I design. It adds so much life and texture to a space.

In this room, I added a snake plant to the nightstand, and I think it’s the perfect touch. Plus, snake plants are some of the easiest plants to care for, so it’s a win-win!

9. Try a little texture

The more texture the better in my book! And the best part is that you can add texture to a room in a variety of ways.

From upholstered headboards to velvet drapery, the options are endless. And just like with color, you can mix and match your texture choices to create a room that’s both cozy and sophisticated.

In this room, you’ll notice that we have a velvet headboard, cozy bedding, a sheepskin rug, and a few different throw pillows to add to the mix.

You can also see how we’ve added texture to the walls with the panel moulding and created a feature wall with the wallpaper.

10. Don’t forget the bed linens

Just like with the wall color, you can choose bed linens that are as feminine or as masculine as you like. The bed is the focal point of the room, so it’s a great place to add some softness with light, airy linens and a few throw pillows.

I chose a beautiful, soft pink quilt and shams from Serena & Lily and added a floral pillow and a couple of lumbar pillows. I also added a throw blanket for a little extra texture and to help bring some of the colors in the room together.

Conclusion

We think you’ll be surprised at how much you love the look of a dark bedroom when you take this approach. We hope you’ll give it a try and let us know how it goes!
